In that moment of choice,
Lives are changed forever.
If only there was a looking glass
Would you be so heartless?
If only there was a moment
Of compassion,
Would you find another way?
Why not stop for a minute and connect.
Connect with your inner knowing,
With your inner grace,
And take a moment to step into
The shoes of 'the other'?
Take a breath, and feel her pain,
As she is forced to leave all she knows
To feel safe and free.
Imagine what lays ahead for her
And the difference you can make
With the brief sweep of your pen.
And yet, you ignore your heart,
You look at your watch
And, pen to paper, create the mark
Of pain, of poverty, of being outcast
From the light into the darkness,
Waiting to smother and consume.
The power you hold has no substance
In the next world,
And the imprint you leave you children
And grandchildren
Can never fully be understood by you,
As they strive to right your wrong.
A plea to all in power
To be mindful and humble
Men and women of courage.
And for every man and woman
To intend to bring light and love,
To empower and enrich,
To be generous in spirit,
And wise in mind,
Open in heart,
And committed to right action
For the goodness of all,
Beyond Self.
